Mr. TBRU Contest
What is the Mr. TBRU Contest?
The Mr. TBRU contest is designed to be a fun and enjoyable event to enhance the overall TBRU experience. This contest is not part of any circuit or preliminary, but rather just an event to relax and have fun with. So get your Bear, Cub, or Admirer "game-on" and join the fun! Read more below about the contest. If you are interested in being a contestant be sure to check the box when you register for TBRU. - Bear Brother Award (voted on by your fellow contestants)
- Mr. TBRU17 (awarded by the judges to one of the finalists)
Contest Prizes
Several prizes will be awarded along with the contest titles:
- various gift baskets
- gift cards/cash
- TBRU 18 Complimentary Run Passes
- Medallion
- Back Patch for a Vest
Who Can Enter?
Any registered TBRU attendee can enter the Mr. TBRU contest. (Full members of the Dallas Bears are ineligible to enter the contest.)
What Does a Contestant Have to Do?
It's easy and doesn't take a lot of time:
- Attend the TBRU Contestant Meeting
- Wear your Contestant ID during TBRU and to all TBRU events you attend
- Encourage your fellow TBRU attendees to attend the contest
- Sell TBRU Raffle Tickets during the specified event (not all weekend, just one short event)
- Attend the Contest
- Work with your fellow contestants in a positive manner
Judged Categories
Contestants will be judged on a 1-10 scale using Olympic style scoring (lowest score and highest score in each category tossed out to produce the composite score). Highest overall score will be the winner of each category. All contestants/finalists will be judged on a separate ballot for the title of Mr. TBRU 17. All scoring will be monitored by a Tally Master and a member of the Dallas Bears Board of Directors to ensure accuracy and fair practices.

- TBRU Theme Attire (Bears Gone Wild – Spring Break Style)
- Bears in Boxers/Underwear
- Bear Wear of your choice
- On Stage "Fun" Question and Answer
In the event any category has a large number of contestants, the contest coordinator may institute a finalist elimination based on the TBRU Theme Attire based scores. If a finalist process is going to be implemented the Contestants will be notified at the Contestant Meeting.
What Do the Winners Have to Do?
As mentioned earlier, the contest is for fun and is not a circuit or preliminary contest. The Dallas Bears ask each winner to do the following:
- Positively promote TBRU throughout the next year in your local community and in your travels
- Attend the Dallas Pride Parade and be on our float/entry (if possible)
- Wear your TBRU Contest Title medallion and Back Patch with pride!
- Join the Dallas Bears for any of our events or socials anytime you're in Dallas
- Organize at least one fundraiser as Mr. TBRU... for a charity of your choice in your local community (you'll be glad you did)
Judges
Qualified community members may express interest to be a judge for the Mr. TBRU contest. You may submit your interest to the contest coordinator when you register (click the box) or via email to contest@tbru.org. Candidates must meet the following criteria to be selected as a judge:
- Be a registered TBRU 17 attendee
- Not be related to or in a relationship with any contestant or another judge
- Not reside in the Greater Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex
- Not be a member of the Dallas Bears (Full or Associate) or any other Dallas/Fort Worth area organizations
- Attend the required Judges Meeting
- Preference that you are a current or past title holder, bear or other community organization leader, former judge of a like contest, or other related bear community experience to be stated on the judge's application.
Eligible judges names will be placed into a pool. The judge's names will be drawn out of the hat (raffle ticket style) on stage at the beginning of the contest by the President of the Dallas Bears. Judges' names that are drawn will then be seated at the judges table.
